How to Take Part
You can take part by carrying out the Baton process in your local area.
The Process
- begin your walk from a public location
- carry the baton through your area
- record your journey, optional
- go to your local council building
- copy the email template and send the framework by email to the council leader, mayor, or relevant local representative
- keep a record of the email acknowledgement or delivery confirmation

Before taking part, you may wish to review or download the framework.

Start with the summary, then download the full framework.
Recording Your Journey, Optional
You are encouraged to document your journey, but this is not required.
You may choose to:
- speak on camera
- explain your reasons
- record your walk and surroundings
- focus on the baton
- use narration only
You do not need to appear on camera.
The process itself is what matters most.
Submitting the Framework
The framework is shared digitally.
- send it by email to your local council
- address it to the council leader, mayor, or relevant local representative
- keep a record of the email acknowledgement
This ensures direct delivery and a clear record of participation.
Use of Footage
If you choose to submit footage to the initiative, it may be reviewed and, with your permission, used as part of public-facing material.

Editing Your Journey Video
Recording your journey is optional.
If you choose to submit a video, please keep it short where possible. A clear journey video can be around 60–90 seconds and may include:
- the baton at the starting point
- a few clips from the walk
- a local landmark or council building
- the framework being sent by email
- a short reflection on why participation matters
You do not need professional editing. Simple trimming is enough.

Only submit footage you are comfortable sharing, and avoid including identifiable members of the public unless they have agreed to be recorded.

This is a self-supported initiative.
